After considering all of information at hand.......a fight on 2 fronts is not a very good idea and nobody has even looked over the other side to the other ship.......Baham turns to Banwick......."pardon me for just a moment"....as Baham very quickly runs to the other side of the ship to take a quick observation of the condition (and possible occupants) of the other ship

The other ship, a single masted vessel, is of a far more lean and elegant design, with obvious elven overtones to its rails and structure. Lashed as it is for boarding from the vessel the party currently occupies, it remains afloat, though it is sitting very low in the water, and leaning slightly outward and away from where you stand. Its sail is in tatters and the hull itself is weathered and worn with age and the elements.
Similar to your current surroundings, there are no figures visible anywhere. Even looking closely, no spiders are currently evident either.

Baham runs back to the group and relays that the other ship seems to be sinking and is devoid of spiders.......and informs the group that if a search of the other ship is to be made ....it should be done sooner then later.....as it already sits low in the water

ooc: how thick are the masts? how long would it take for a strong character, like rock or klangwhyrr, to cut down the masts and send them into the sea?

OOC: Without a proper ax or saw it'd be nearly impossible short of attacking them with spellcraft of some sort. Swords and fists just aren't generally up to the task, unless you were doing critical damage. The masts are roughly 3' in diameter.

OOC: Ever tried punching a telephone pole? With your strength scores, if you're willing to damage to yourselves to do it, I'll grant its possible but will take an extended amount of time...and seriously SHAKE the masts.

OOC: Is there a place on the ship where there are less sails/rigging overhead?
From the little I know about boats, typically the mizzenmast (the last mast, at the rear of the ship) is the smallest and least complex.

ooc: would my warp wood scroll be enough to knock a mast over?
srd says: you may warp one small or smaller object or its equivalent per caster level. a medium object counts as two small objects

OOC: DingDingDing, give the Warforged man a prize. Exactly right. Likewise, there are easily 8-10' spaces in between each of the masts where the sails are not directly overhead. The party can also skirt along the rails of the ship to avoid being directly underneath the sails and rigging where the spiders currently perch.
EDIT: OOC: Mavelle, I'll allow warp wood to "break" a mast with (3) applications. The masts definitely do not count at small OR medium. Definitely large. The boom, however....

Klangwhyrr leaned forward. The clacks and whirring, and metal rubbing against stone that accompanied the automaton's every move were concealed by the whisper of the wind, the persistent snap of fluttering sails and the rolling waves.
Glancing to his companions, Klangwhyrr invited them to come closer - into an almost conspiratorial confidence. “If Banwyck is correct,” he said, his sepulcher voice barely a whisper, “and we are not simply encountering a vessel infested with common arachnids, but facing an insidious trap, two options are available to us: proceed with extreme caution with the intent of avoiding detection or… we deliberately trigger the trap and use the resultant chaos to our advantage.”

DM dice roll for Sneaking (Hide/Move Silent, etc): 20 (natural) pick whichever, with a natural 20, doesn't matter whether I'd want you to or not, you guys don't immediately notice him stepping away...lol
As the group "huddles", Baham steps back and starts to decend into the hold using the steps near what he believes to be the Captain's cabin, muttering something about someone needing to save whoever is still alive and calling for help....
The first thing the Dragonborn adventurer notices as he begins his decent is that the stairway, roughly 5' wide, is covered with a silvery-white webbing after the second step from the top. Pausing there to "peek" (Spot Roll: 3 + 0 =3), he sees the same web-like substance covering all the walls as well as any cargo and basically, whatever is beneath the deck. He doesn't immediately see any spiders present.
(Listen Roll: 14 +0 = 14) He does hear what appears to be a bit o bickering in hushed voices going on further back in the enclosed space.
"...an I'm telling you, mphhhf...it's Drow! And they might be returning..."

Rock gulps down the liquid and quietly says, "So wur killin the spiders?"
Looking at Rock you see that he has unsheathed his Greatsword and is holding it at the ready. A large warhammer hangs from his left hip.
