Ok, the set up for the game as I described it in the original FB post:
The game itself is going to start as a massive group endeavour, and we'll see where it goes from there. Perhaps the group will remain together, maybe they'll all split up and work on different stuff. We'll see.
The characters will all be part of a mission to travel to a "Forgotten" continent, and to contact and if need be, reclaim an outpost keep for the King of the (not that important) kingdom you're leaving. (Details to follow if everyone's cool with this idea.)
The kingdom will have lost contact with this outpost over one hundred years ago due to a massive, magically-created storm called "The Great Maelstrom", that lay across an immense area of the ocean, disrupting trade routes and the like.
The mission will be led by an NPC Govenor with some support NPCs such as a blacksmith, priest, scribe, and a handful of soldiers. The Party will be the muscle hired for whatever's necessary.
It will be up to each player to decide WHY they're involved. Granted, that reason can be as simple as "Because I needed the money..." or as complex as you like.
Short term, the game will involve sea travel, exploration, and the reclaiming of the long-lost outpost.
A question I was asked regarding the Maelstrom:
"Has the magical storm recently dissipated? And that is why the PCs are being tasked with the expedition? Because if the outpost has been inaccessible for a hundred years, why is the king interested in reclaiming it, now? Why didn’t his great, great, great, great grandfather send a party out?"
Answer:
The Maelstrom IS weakening, though some of its force is still in place. However, the party will be travelling with an outlandish Captain who claims to have plotted a path around/through it and to have actually made the journey once already...and the King believes him.
Ships HAVE been sent out and either returned, terrified, or never have been seen again!
So, more questions about the Game (while we're still setting up?)
