Wincing noticeably as Baham's body strikes the hull of the ship, Banwyck keeps his eyes on the dragon-kin long enough to be sure he is not going to fall into the ocean. He then turns to address Klangwhyrr, his face taking on a seriousness no one on The Impolite Fortune has seen up until this moment, "You're right; we've lost our advantage. With you and Rock rowing as fast as possible, and I pitching in as I can, I think that will get us there as quickly as possible; you both are impressively strong." As Ban gets into rowing position he continues, "Mavelle, please keep an eye on the ship and if anything appears to be threatening us or Baham, let us all know and take it out if you can. Professor? Moridan? If you notice those things or Mavelle sounds the alarm, please drop what you're doing and use your arts to help her do that. Aside from being one of our companions, Baham might also be our key to safe passage if we ever reach land."
Attempting to fall in synch with Klangwhyrr & Rock's rhythm, Ban's face reflects the effort, but his smile returns. Saying brightly to the air in front of him between row-accompanying grunts, "Was that a half-dragon hitting the side of a ship or was that Adventure knocking?"

Klangwhyrr looked to Banwyck. In the shadows of his helmet, the twin points of light that resembled eyes momentarily shifted from their wary amber hue to a pale, contemplative blue. "It was unmistakably a dragon-kin crashing into the side of a ship. Adventure is a concept. As such, it is incapable of physical activity, such as, knocking."

After a strenuous and concerted effort by the companions, the longboat drew close to the two mystery ships. “We have arrived,” Klangwhyrr declared and ceased rowing. Neatly, he stowed his oars in the thwart beneath him and reached into the leather bag at his hip. He produced a silken rope and a blackened grappling hook wrought from iron.
As the longboat drifted closer to its destination, Klangwhyrr threaded the rope through the eye of the grappling hook and tied a knot. The three fingers of his oversized hands moved with an unexpected deftness. “Stand back,” Klangwhyrr said, rising to his feet. He spun the grappling hook over his helmeted head, the claws whistled with each swirling arc.
---------- OOC: I don’t know if throwing a grappling hook requires a DEX check or an attack roll ---------
Klangwhyrr released the grappling hook, sending it flying up to the deck where it hooked the railing. The automaton gave it a firm tug to ensure it was secure. “It is time to board,” he said. “Banwyck, Rock, follow me.”

Klangwhyrr looped the silken rope around his oversized, three-fingered hands to ensure a firm grip. Lifting his leg, he pressed a foot against the slick, barnacle-crusted hull of the ship. The automaton pulled himself up with mighty heave and began, slowly, half-walking, half-climbing up to the deck.

OOC: Klangwhyrr is trained in Balance (3) and is untrained in Climb (Strength: +2). Unless there are sounds of alarm or battle, Klangwhyrr will Take 10/Take 20.
----------
Stepping over the railing, Klangwhyrr, immediately, assumed defensive stance. Long blades, wicked and curving, slid from the recesses of his elbow and lined the length of his forearm. An array of knives extended from his knuckles and wrists. Deadly studs and spikes protruded up and down his arms and legs.
The ethereal points of light that flicker in the shadows of his helmet shift to a wary amber hue. With methodical thoroughness, he scanned his environment, scrutinizing everything. With quiet dispassion he sought the elusive signs of danger. He took note of every detail; every aspect of the abandoned vessel for clues as to what may have occurred. Klangwhyrr peered up, examining the ratlines and following their path to the yard arm and the crow’s nest. He turned his head to one side, looking upon the forecastle. He turned his head to the other side, looking upon the stern castle and the pilot house. He surveyed the shadows below the stairs and below the grated cargo doors. He inventoried the debris scattered across the deck.

(OOC: Forgive me the lack of a proper map at this time. I've got a program for creating maps that I'm trying to use, but its not linking properly. For the time being, we'll use the following) Baham climbs over the rail and onto the main deck, (roughly where the captial "A" of A5a is on the main deck map. He pauses but a moment to see if he's been noticed or there's anything dangerous worth noting, (Spot Check: 4) Feeling secure, he advances across the deck to where he assumes the captain's cabin will be found. The ship is eeriely silent and there is no one visible to the Dragon-kin. In route, he ignites his "Draconic Aura" and is momentarily surrounded by a few rings of static energy that quickly fade from sight. (Spot Check: 14) Halfway there the Shaman is sure he hears some sort of cry from below decks: "...pirates! ...'ware ...ders of unusual size!" ******************* Hauling himself up carefully but with apparent ease, Klangwhyrr reaches the rail and hauls his massive form and sees Baham pause one square north of A3. (Spot Check: 15 + 5 = 20) While the warforged guardian does not see anyone other than the Dragonborn shaman on deck, he does ...feel...movement above. Unsure of his perceptions, the automaton scans upwards and after a long moment then sees what had caught his attention...the first of several small creatures scurrying about the mast and on the sails. Dozens of small insects roughly the size of a man's hand skittering about. NONE of them, however, seem to be advancing or moving in a threatening manner at this point. ****************** Mavelle gives a girlish sigh and attempts to climb upwards. (Climb Roll: 2 ) She moves less than 10 feet upwards, struggling, and then drops down awkwardly into the boat, landing on Moridon in his volumous robes. (No Damage to either. The mage is currently being NPC'd and will remain with the boat, btw) ****************** Banwyck ...? Rock...? Professor...?

Klangwhyrr focused his gaze on the insects crawling amidst the rigging. He reached back into the depths of his encyclopedic knowledge to recognize the creatures and determine if it poses a risk to his companions.

Rock picks Mavelle up and gently deposits her on his back.
"Here, hold on. I'll get us up."
Rock then climbs up with Mavelle on hanging onto him.
Ooc: climb +6 and Mavelle and her carried gear are well below Rocks carry capacity. Assuming her doesn't bork his climb roll completely when he reaches the top he helps her onto the deck before climbing there himself.

Once he is sure Mavelle and Rock have successfully made the climb, Banwyck turns to Moradin, "Make as loud a noise as you can if you need us or need to warn us about something. And if you absolutely need to get the longboat away from the ship...," he secures the silk rope to the ship at a place that makes sense with a slipknot [Use Rope (9)], "... pull on this spot right here to release the rope. See you soon!"
Getting a grip on the rope, Banwyck begins to climb [Climb (3), taking 10 if there is no pressing sign of danger].

Baham: The draconic adventurer hears the cry coming up from beneath the decks, and then realizes that he's passing the grated hatch on his way to where he believes the captain's quarters lie. The hatch itself is roughly 7 ft square, and secured shut against opening with a simple pin wrapped in leather.
Klangwhyrr: His inhuman eyes take in the slowly moving arachnids and their actions, and decide that they are not currently all that active. Moreso, a large number of them seem actually dormant. A quick estimate convinces the automaton that there are over 50 of the creatures in the rigging and sails above.
Rock: The large warrior easily scales the side of the ship and Mavelle does her best not to panic on the way up. Rock climbs over the rail and comes up next to Klang.
Mavelle: The druidic maiden hangs onto the swordsman for dear life and safely (if not confidently) makes it onto the deck as well.
Banwyck: After assuring that their possible escape route is secure, the swashbuckling adventurer swings up the side of the ship a bit slower than Rock, but with more flair.
Kreeg: You now hear several booted figures moving above, making little to no effort to be quiet about it, either. Next to you, the elven healer's eyes go wide and she seemingly forgets the current threat and whispers, "Is it wise for us to call out if it IS really a bunch of pirates? They might kill us...?" Around you, however, the noise seems to awaken the spiders who suddenly....stop moving at all?
Presently, all of the (active) adventurers are assembled aboard the deck, with Baham "fiddling" with the hold hatch. At this time, we are NOT in initiative mode...
